Book Review: THE SUMMER CHILDREN by Dot Hutchison (Collector Trilogy, Book 3) — Crime by the Book

A girl named Maya runs and escapes the place and finally reaches the FBI for help but her story is confusing for the agents as she does not act like a normal girl because of the encaged situation that she faced in the garden.

The second story is the continuation of the first one where the FBI agents try to save the girls of the garden by relocating them to the places from which they were brought by the gardener. Agent Mercedes is also this time given a murder case to solve that becomes more horrified as the story progresses.

The third tale is a nightmare when Mercedes finds an abused boy on her door front who just tells her that her parents were killed by an angel who left him on Mercedes door. The story does not stop at this point she receives one and then another boy each day on her door front with the same story that starts to make her life a living hell. All the stories are full of suspense and horror throughout and are narrated well by Lauren Ezzo , Mel Foster , Siiri Scott and Will Damron who have painted the terror up to the maximum level and have given each character a different touch in personality.

Blackmore are other novels people may like to listen to in some spare time. Eat, Slay, Love. Her steady stream of chatter shifts to work, and my hums get a little more absentminded.

I can talk about my teammates, our unit chief and his family, but it even unnerves her to hear about the pranks we pull on each other at the office when our desks bear folders full of horrors. What is it? You and Eddison being you and Eddison. Mostly accurate too. Not sure if the sec-chief believed him or not, but both Eddison and I were assigned to the next quarterly sexual harassment seminar. I drove us straight from the office. But the question stands. She laughs again and bats my hand away.

I live in a quiet neighborhood on the outskirts of Manassas, Virginia, about an hour southwest of DC, and almost as soon as we pull off the interstate, we become the only car on the road for minutes at a time.

I am all sorts of good with those extra decades. The houses are more cottage than anything, only one or two rooms, set like single blooms in decently sized lawns. Nothing seems out of place, so I open the car door. Siobhan grabs our messenger bags from the backseat and skips ahead of me on the curving walk to the front porch. Chances are good. Or, ooh! Those berry-and-cream-cheese pinwheel puffs. In the bright glare of the porch light, a shadow sits on the bench swing.

I inch forward past Siobhan, gun aimed down, until I can see more clearly through the rails. This act of selflessness, one where he was willing to let his hummingbird go and free herself from him, redeemed Emerson in my eyes despite the fact that I never faulted him for taking Daphne in the first place. It may have been difficult between them at first, but he was completely enamored with her and wanted to obtain her no matter what.

However, this doesn't mean that all could be forgiven considering Emerson still has to face Daphne's family. She is not art. Or—she is more than art. More than an obsession. She's everything. Breathing, living love. While their story may be unconventional, the love, lust, and understanding that they had for each other was always prevalent throughout the trilogy.

As for that controversial scene that everybody seems to fault Amelia Wilde for in Sweet Mercy , I do want to say that there was a reason behind it and the author does a spectacular job explaining it in this book. Besides trying to prove a point, Emerson was trying distance himself from Daphne only for it to backfire on him because he was already in love with her. Daphne and Emerson's romance was so much more than I thought it would be. I never expected it to turn out the way it did and I couldn't be more than happier about it.

This trilogy has solidified my love for her writing because it had everything I wanted and more—angst, heartbreak, drama, and an obsessive love. Fans of Amelia Wilde's writing will absolutely love this trilogy as well as those who love reading about the broken and tortured hero who simply cannot live without his sweet and lovely heroine.

I miss her like an empty gallery. I miss her like my heart has been torn out. I miss her like I love her. Last Resort begins right where Sweet Mercy ended in that Emerson and Daphne have now been pulled apart by external circumstances.

Both Daphne and Emerson's siblings come to the forefront of the story, especially Leo who is literally gun 4 Stars! Both Daphne and Emerson's siblings come to the forefront of the story, especially Leo who is literally gunning for Emerson.

That I love him. And we know there are a LOT of them. I was overjoyed to see Daphne really grow a backbone She wasn't afraid to fight for what she wanted and it was refreshing to watch. And I adored how Daphne made Emerson want to fight for his mental health.

Once again, this book was hot as all get out. Let's just say that these two did every single sexual thing that I think can be done with a canvas, paint, frames, and paintbrushes. And who's got two thumbs and was here for it?! This girl! And I can do whatever I want with you. Amelia Wilde has definitely established herself as a true contender in this genre. I can't wait to read ALL the many spinoffs that are to come following this series.

Not only in the Midnight Dynasty world but for Emerson's siblings as well. I was especially intrigued by Will, so I'll be over here impatiently awaiting his book Blackmail! Mar 20, Amy [Book Addict Reviews] rated it it was amazing Shelves: dark , romantic-suspense , enemies-to-lovers , forbidden.

There have been a lot of ups and downs and I was curious to see how everything would end for the two of them. Especially, given the events that occurred in the second book.

The connection they have formed throughout the course of the series. The understanding that the two of them have for each other, too. Emerson is possessive, probably to the extreme at times, but there is also a lot more to him.

Daphne calms the storm in his mind. I loved that neither of these characters were perfect, they were broken and both struggling with different things.

Mar 22, shereads. I received an arc for a honest review. That cliffhanger of Sweet Mercy got me wanting to know what's going to happen!! You'll have to read Dark Reign and Sweet Mercy before reading this one.

I have to say this, Amelia Wilde is the queen of writing broken Heroes. Can I just say the steamy scenes, OMG. I won't be able to see painting like the same. Lol I won't sa I received an arc for a honest review. Lol I won't say much because I feel like I'll spoil it if I say anything.

I love the Morelli's. Lol Well, except for their dad, Bryant, but somehow he was somewhat likeable here. He's the MAN!!! Lol Now I want to learn how to paint.

Her persona develops into a confident woman, her art mirrors this change, taking new shapes, evolving into something bigger. It was hard to keep up with his perspective when reading his POV.

The hot moments depicting them were satisfying and I fully enjoyed those steamy scenes. Their coming together may have been unconventional but its theirs and it fits them perfectly. Mar 21, Jean rated it it was amazing.

So that thing in Sweet Mercy that got panties wadded and pearls clutched. This inner storm sets up a beautiful, lyrical finale for Emerson and Daphne. It's not just about them finding their way to each other but finding a way forward, accepting their darkness, and allowing it to raise each other up.

The way that they gave each other the strength and support to take their place within their own families without losing themselves is icing on this dark, luscious cake of a story. Yes, it was hot AF, dark and kinky, but it was also a lovely exploration of boundaries, consent, and acceptance. A great conclusion to the story of the Little Painter and the Collector.

It really does frustrate me how much of a hypocrite Leo is in the whole thing. And then the fact that he wouldn't listen to Daphne at all was really making me mad. But moving along Emerson was killing me with his severe anxiety! I felt his panic in my soul! I am looking forward to getting more stories in this world. Will and Sin are particularly intriguing to me right now I want her story so bad! Sto A great conclusion to the story of the Little Painter and the Collector.

Mar 21, Jenn T rated it it was amazing. I'm sad it's over. I am so in love with Emerson and Daphne. Once again I'm wowed by Amelia's ability to create a story so profound. It's captivating. My heart was in my throat through the entire thing. Poor Emerson. I wanted to reach into the pages and hug him. I loved seeing the growth in Daphne. She's more confident and less timid and the way she is with Emerson during his struggles is beautiful.

They are perfect for each other. If you haven't read the Collector trilo I'm sad it's over. I struggled a little at the beginning of the first book I wasn't sure how I was feeling about it, but I promise you, if you stick with it, you'll be so happy you did!

Mar 22, The Romantic Rush Blog rated it really liked it. The little painter and her collector, after a foreboding beginning and tumultuous middle, have what seems to be their biggest battle in this finale- the formidable force that is the Morelli family and their hyper protective nature when it comes to their little Daphne.

Only Leo has marshaled all the Morelli troops, and all the dark, mysterious, and brooding Morellis have convened together to check on their dear sister. And Emerson too is having an identity crisis, caught between the oppressive triggers and weight of his path and his desire to recapture his painter.

Where this story really excels is the Morelli dynamic. We get to be a fly on the wall as this family comes together for their sister- this very broken, messed up, gritty family. And what we see is truly moving- because overtime we see how these siblings have figured out how to rebuild their family, how they each show up in their own unique way, how they each have a very intentional role in making the big ole messy Morelli family tick.

They are still broken, imperfect, and tension still looms heavy between them, but they also have their own very captivating way of loving each other. I relished every moment they were on page, marveled and how perfectly the puzzle all fit together. Empathized with them, FELT their connections.

Each has their own special moment, but no one shines more brightly than my favorite Morelli Leo. I did not think I could be more obsessed with this character, but my god, Amelia did it again. Not only do we get tender glimmers of his relationship with Haley, but we get to revel in the amazing sibling relationship he has with Daphne.

I swooned so hard for this devoted brother, the way he broke for her, his devotion, how tenderly and fervently his black and broken heart loves his baby sister. The real turning point in this story is the breakthroughs Leo and Daphne have in their relationship- and truth be told, it outshines her relationship with Emerson some. But how could it not? We do get some progress with Emerson and Daphne, though Amelia really focuses more on their individual healing, much which they do longing for each other but still apart.

Their love is their own- and it seems that the controversial finale catalyzed their relationships in ways they both were comfortable with and valued, even if others felt it diminished his obsession. The obsession still rings true. But I did love the much anticipated Leo-Emerson showdown s.

Amelia shows us two very different dark and alpha men, each with their own flaws and vulnerabilities, each who love the same woman, and we see how darkness can look very differently. But is Daphne who drives this story, who drives every action and whose strength inspires real and meaningful resolution. The finale is beautifully written, heavily meta, and not quite what I expected overall, but satisfying nonetheless, and the Morelli magic truly is incomparable.
